Peanut Butter Chocolate Bars

Hello and Welcome to Adventures In Baking!  September was filled with apples so October will be focusing on Halloween candy.  I'm starting right off with the most traditional candy of all ..... Chocolate.  I'm using this recipe from Bake or Break.

The ingredients.  Not too many.  And yes, that's a box cake mix.

Let's get started.  Combine the cake mix, peanut butter, butter and eggs.

Next step.  Set aside 1 and 1/2 cups of crust mixture.  Press remaining crust mixture into bottom and partially up the sides of the baking pan.

Final step.  To make the filling, place chocolate chips and condensed milk in a microwavable bowl.  Heat in the microwave for 1 minute.  Stir until chips melt and mixture is smooth.  Stir in vanilla.  Pour filling over crust and spread evenly.  It thickens very quickly, so start spreading or you'll have a big lump.  Ask me how I know that?  Haha.

Taste test.  Well, it's OK.  I thought I'd like it much more than I did.  I mean it's basically a chocolate bar baked in the middle of a peanut butter cookie.  Chocolate lovers will probably like it more than I did.  If you take a look at the very first photo of the post, you'll notice the chocolate layer is pretty thick.  After I took the photo, I cut each of the pieces into fourths.  One bite poppers.  And took them to work.  They're all gone.  Guess that says it all.

Next week ...... a twist on caramel apples!

Enjoy!
